Our school-wide expectations are SOAR: Safe, Outstanding, Accountable & Responsible. When students exemplify these expectations in classrooms and on campus, they are rewarded by teachers and staff with a Hawk Feather noting the reason. Students then turn in the Hawk Feather and are eligible for weekly and monthly drawings for Hawk of the Week, field trips, goody bags, PBIS SWAG, Hawk week and other PBIS events throughout the school year.
Assemblies
PBIS hosts student assemblies on Positivity, Drug Awareness, Anti-Bullying and other topics throughout the school year. In the last three years we have hosted guest speakers such as local comedian JT Turner, a BMX show by No Hate Bullying Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Tour, Kevin Bracy and Steered Straight. Our intentions in hosting all-school assemblies is to develop a feeling of unity and positive school culture among the students and staff.
Field trips
Field trips allow students to collaborate with their peers, explore new environments, make connections, problem solve, develop trust, and empathy while also enhancing social-emotional development and social skills. Over the last few years, PBIS has taken students to the Getty Museum, the Aquarium of the Pacific, and multiple trips to Student Day at the Drag Strip - a student focused program hosted by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).
Hawk of the Week
Each week, five Hawk Feathers are randomly selected and those students receive PBIS SWAG or a goody bag of treats. These rewards are delivered by a student team during the school day so the students can be celebrated for showing they SOAR.
Hawk Weeks
Once each semester we reward 200-300 Hawks that SOAR with two days of Food Trucks during lunch and an afternoon movie in the PAC with snacks.
SWAG
The Stuff We All Get! PBIS rewards Hawks that SOAR with goody bags of tasty treats, PBIS branded T Shirts, baseball caps, stainless steel water bottles and custom silicone bracelets with various PBIS messages.
